Little Leaguers: Guides Without Goodness

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)

The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

Psalm 145:9 (ESV)

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone…

Galatians 6:10 (ESV)

Guides without goodness… take us bad places. They charm us, confuse us, or coerce us, and the end result can be disastrous!

If these guides also call themselves Christians… at a minimum, God will correct them. At a maximum, He will condemn them.

The ONLY people our Captain condemned were NOT sinners, prostitutes, or pagans. Instead, they were the MISleading leaders of His Law. They were guides without goodness… taking people in the wrong direction:

Specifically, toward Satan and death… while claiming to represent Jehovah!

‘How terrible for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You sail the seas and cross whole countries to win one convert; and when you succeed, you make him twice as deserving of going to hell as you yourselves are! How terrible for you, blind guides! (Matthew 23:15-16, GNT)

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

I think God prefers an honest sinner above a hypocritical Christian. How can I say that?

  1. God loves truth, even when we make mistakes. EVERY Christian makes mistakes EVERY day.

  2. Outsiders don’t claim to represent Him. They won’t bring harm to His wonderful name!

  3. When preachers misrepresent their Namesake, they become false Christs and false prophets.

Guides without goodness are guides without God.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: How can you be sure you’re repping God well?

  1. Stay close to His Word. Stay in the Bible!

  2. Stay close to your kin: honest-to-God saints!

  3. Look for the good in people– not their flaws!

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
