Little Leaguers: Losers Without Love
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NASB)
In summary… God's bottom line is love. It's also His top line and His middle line.
If life is a game, if you’re God’s linebackers pushing through it, then 'Run in such a way that you may win' (1 Corinthians 9:24). How?
In love, because God says, 'Love never fails' (1 Corinthians 13:8).
Imagine a game: It's THE Super Bowl. Just seconds remain to run the last play. It's fourth and goal. The best offensive line in the whole world… is down by six small points, while the ball sits close to the goal line.
The ball snaps, but instead of confronting the opposing team with full-on fury… they meet them with love. They push forward with smiles, hugs, and kisses.
Surprised, the fierce defenders didn’t see the Quarterback sailing over their heads, in what seems a supernatural lift. He lands in victory, opens His Arms, and invites EVERYONE to His party.
Fans are thrilled! TV’s replay the moment, over and over. The losing coach walks away in a huff.
That Quarterback is Jesus! He’s THE Star.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: You’re His teammates and His supporting cast. That game is now, and the ending is known.
Here’s what isn't known: How many opposing players and fans will accept His party invitation?
The best way to get them to consider following the 'Captain of their Salvation' (Hebrews 2:10) is a surprising move of your own: LOVE!
It's THE play that disarms THE enemy. That’s why your Captain calls it and leads it.
'I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My Righteous Right Hand' (Isaiah 41:10).
Only love lifts you from the little leagues to the majors of Christianity!

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
