Everyday Stars: Helpers
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Mark 12:31 (NKJV)
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,' but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
James 2:14-17 (NKJV)
Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.
Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)
Everyday stars lives their lives… as helpers! They’re ready, willing, and available… no matter how tired or busy they are.
While others discuss what needs to be done, helpers step up, step forward, and do it.
While most kneel, pray, then go about their day… helpers kneel, pray, and go out of their way… to help ANYONE.
LIKE HOW?
To fix a tire, lend a hand, pay the tab,
Cook a meal, clean the mess, defend the weak,
Invite the lonely, visit the homebound,
Uplift the depressed, ferry the car-less,
Take the dirty jobs, forget their own needs,
And volunteer when the others hang back.
Jesus hits this nail of need on its head. He hits it with kingly authority: 'A new Commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples' (John 13:34-35).
He hits it with relatable stories: 'So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him' (Luke 10:34, The Parable of the Good Samaritan).
He hits it by Personal Example: 'He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons' (Mark 1:34); He fed 'The five thousand' and 'Four thousand' (Mark 8:19-20). He stopped to help all those who came to Him.
'And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written' (John 21:25).
To top it all, Jesus lay on the Cross. All our neglected nails of need HIT HIM. All the helping hands we refused to give, all the cries of help we refused to hear, all the blame we weren’t able to bear… pierced the Carpenter.
Can we do less than become His helpers?
Therefore, 'Brethren, do not grow weary in doing good' (2 Thessalonians 3:13). To do good is love, and to love spells HELP.
Conclusion: BEING A HELPER is an attribute of godly success.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
