Everyday Stars: Scramblers
And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.
Mark 2:4 (NKJV)
Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.
Luke 19:2-4 (NKJV)
The multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him.
Mark 6:33 (NKJV)
Everyday heroes are sometimes… scramblers. To scramble is 'to struggle eagerly or unceremoniously for possession of something; to get or gather something with difficulty or in irregular ways' (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
SCRAMBLE FOR WHAT?
The ball, the score, the break, or… THE BLESSING!
SCRAMBLE HOW?
Hustle! Give up decorum and forget image. Go against the flow. Ignore the laughter. Skip common customs. Risk the criticism… for the greater purpose of seeking God; for the greater reward in pleasing God.
Because… your extraordinary efforts invite His extraordinary blessings.
Consider Jacob. As he fought a mysterious Wrestler and realized He was God Himself, God said, ' 'Let Me go, for the day breaks.' But he said, 'I will not let You go unless You bless me!' ' (Genesis 32:26).
Consider the woman with the issue of blood. Although tradition said to stay inside, she came out and scrambled for The Healer: 'When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment' (Mark 5:27).
Consider one mother’s desperation. She was a female and a foreigner, who disregarded cultural customs and entreated the Jewish Messiah to unbind her demon-possessed daughter… even with her bold, but polite, debate.
'He answered and said, 'It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.' And she said, 'Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table' ' (Matthew 15:26-27).
THE POINT?
In seeking Jesus, Whether you need to uncover a roof, climb a tree, run a race, fight the good fight, push through a crowd, or debate a king, SCRAMBLE! PERSEVERE! BE INGENIOUS and go the extra mile to follow God.
Therefore, BEING A SCRAMBLER (when needed) is an attribute of everyday stars.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
