King Saul: Compromises

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James 4:4 (NIV)

The word, COMPROMISE, has many meanings. Regarding Saul and today’s devotion, it refers to “a deal,” a “half-measure,” and a self-serving twist of right and wrong.

When King Saul compromised direct orders and played “the priest”(which was never his role), the Great Director cut his contract short.

David (and his future sons) would be crowned… when God decided to take Saul off stage. Until then, Samuel still advised him, and he gave Saul a specific order:

'Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them' (1 Samuel 15:2-3).*

But King Saul only partially obeyed– and spared the finest of their possessions. He also spared their pagan king, Agag.

Samuel condemned Saul’s bad behavior, who first defended himself– then confessed:

‘I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice’ (1 Samuel 15:24).

Saul sought to please the people around him… more than he sought to please God above him.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Compromising the Word of the Lord equates to dereliction of duty. We serve an all-or-nothing Creator.

NOTE: This logic doesn’t make sense to the world.

Therefore, let’s not confuse short-sighted men with the limitless vision of Jesus.

So when Jesus gives us a commission (along with biblical confirmation), let’s not hesitate to FULLY obey.

King Saul: Compromises (Part 5)

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
