Isaiah 61: Dressed For Success

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 61:10 (NKJV)

As God’s church, we’re betrothed to Jesus Christ. Today, the Father prepares a banquet for our approaching Face-to-face union. In these Parables:

  • The Parable of the Wedding Feast,*

  • The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins,** and

  • The Parable of the Great Supper,***...

Jesus is teaching about readiness. Consider one key readiness detail:

We must dress for success! Also, please note: earth’s Designer doesn't skimp on wardrobe.

He designed the elaborate clothing of Aaron, the priest, 'For glory and for beauty' (Exodus 28:2).****

2nd Note: God links our clothing with our behavior!

  • Job says, 'I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban' (Job 29:14).

  • Mordecai put on 'Sackcloth and ashes... He cried out loud with a bitter cry' (Esther 4:1).

  • Esther 'Put on her royal robes' (Esther 5:1) to plead with the king.

  • Paul counseled new Christians to 'Put on the armor of light' (Romans 13:12).

  • King David says of his enemy: 'He clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, so let it enter his body like water' (Psalm 109:18).

One take-home lesson? What we wear and how we act TRANSFORM US… for better or for worse.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: the King of kings clothes you as royalty. You’re dressed for supernatural success!

By putting on Christ, His impeccable style ‘rubs off’ on YOU!

Increasingly, you look the way He acts, and you act the way He looks: GLORIOUS! Undeniably bright and attractive.

3rd Note: Being attractive is NOT a sin. Instead, it’s a factor of your success in the looks-driven fields of media.

But… are you wondering if you can please BOTH the King of kings and the kings of bling?

Yes! While you dress by your King’s high standards, be mindful of entertainment standards. God sends you into this worldly culture to shine for Him as His ambassadors. He’ll help you bring new meaning to the phrase, 'Fashion-forward.'

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
