The Bread Of Life: Salvation

If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Luke 11:10-13 (NKJV)

We’ve reached another orderly milestone, as Jesus moves on in Luke 11, with His bring-it-home storyline of BREAD! Note the way faith gets rewarded: THE ASK!

Also recall this golden equation: Bread = Jesus = Salvation.

Matthew 7 contains similar Words… in terms of God's response to our requests.

'If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him!' (Matthew 7:11).

Now compare this revelation to Luke's:

'If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!' (Luke 11:13).

The delightful and wondrous difference between the two is the gift we receive from the Lord in response to our prayers. In Matthew, God rewards us with 'Good things.'

But in Luke, we get the best Gift ever: God’s Holy Spirit! He comes and makes His home with us as a result of asking, seeking, and knocking!

Why? Because asking, seeking, and knocking are invitations God vows to accept: 'Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you' (Matthew 7:7).

  • Therefore, let’s ask for God's help and wisdom.

  • Next, let’s seek His Word, His will, and His way.

  • Let’s knock on His door in daily prayer…

  • But not just once. Let’s knock persistently.

  • Then, let’s expect a wondrous conclusion:

  • Not only for ourselves, but also for…

  • The people who come to us at midnight!

Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
