Ten Commandments For Christian Performers: #5, Honor Your Start

Honor your father and your mother.

Exodus 20:12 (NASB)

Performers changing agents is common. What are the reasons?

  • If an agent (within an agency) likes you (and gets you lots of auditions), but his replacement seems to IGNORE you… that could be (perhaps) understandable.*

  • If an agency proves disreputable or asks you to do questionable things (either immoral or expensive things), that’s an absolutely valid reason.

  • If an agent has helped you move forward and given you a solid foundation, but isn’t among the TOP agencies, you may want to take a “better” offer…

  • Because you think you’ll have better access to better roles (like celebrities get)… And maybe so, but on the other Hand, (namely God’s), did you request His counsel?

Also because…

If you forget the people who helped you, your friend, parent, teacher, or first agent,…

  • Who believed in you when no else else did,

  • Who fanned the flame of your unlikely dream…

  • When it was a small and struggling ember…

What would God think of that forgetfulness? Would He consider it ingratitude? Or perhaps… selfish, star-struck ambition?

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

The ones who sacrificed (so you could soar)… should ALWAYS be recognized and honored.

Dream lovers are seldom known to others. They may not dress with style or speak with ease. They may not frequent the “coolest” places— or know the VIPs you’d like to know…

But God knows EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE.

So

Do what David did. To the crippled son of his (late) best friend, and grandson of King Saul, his enemy:

'David said to him… I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father, Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table' (2 Samuel 9:7).

Do what Jesus did.

'When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!' Then He said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother!' From that hour the disciple took her into his own household' (John 19:26-27).

God honors you when YOU HONOR YOUR START.

* However, Shine would recommend you make an appointment and meet the new agent (in person or on Zoom). Make an effort to become known!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If anything I write is on point and agrees with His Word, it’s not from me. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings. This series is a re-write of a prior 2011 series.
