Losers: Old People

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.

Proverbs 16:31 (ESV)

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
They will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age,
They will stay fresh and green…

Psalm 92:12-14 (NIV)

In white (and too many Western cultures), old people are treated as “has-beens:” like run-down cars, needing frequent repairs… obviously destined for the junkyard.

Some families (like mine) send them away… to garage their lives with other “has-beens” — in institutions we call “nursing” homes, but what they’re truly nursing isn’t life.

SIDEBAR: I’m 68 and some might think me “old” — but I refuse to accept that label:) My thoughts about how seniors are treated... came as a girl. To me. it wasn’t right.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Old people (even the sick) aren’t losers. I’ve seen and believe you agree with me– and treat the seniors you know with respect.

Because God doesn’t judge us by our age… or by any superficial measure. (The Good Book is filled with starring seniors!) *

More good news?

Seniors are in demand in media! An aging population wants to see stories and stars they can relate to!

Are beauty and youth still marketable in film, fashion, music, and theatre? In some roles, of course, but less than before.

Take home lessons?

  • If you’re young, spend time with older people. It will help you both (and please your Father).

  • If you’re older, don’t let age hold you back. You’re needed, relevant, and bookable!!

Losers: Old People (Part 14)

* Famous seniors in the Bible are too many to list, but they include Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Caleb, Simeon, Anna, Elizabeth, and Zechariah.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
