King Saul: His Desperation

Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.

Psalm 50:15 (ESV)

And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

1 John 4:15 (ESV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

Sarah DESPERATELY wanted a child. Esau DESPERATELY wanted some food. Jacob DESPERATELY wanted favor!

  • In their journey to reach the Promised Land, the rescued Jews DESPERATELY complained.

  • After centuries of the judge’s rule, they DESPERATELY wanted a king.

  • When Philistia assembled to fight, Saul DESPERATELY desired to strike first!

Desperation is a dark urgency. It’s conceived in feelings of hopelessness. But when despair is taken straight to God, hopelessness is replaced by saving grace.

Again and again, when trouble arose, King David uttered desperate prayers. Again and again, the God-seeking king was saved in threatening circumstances.

On the other hand, when taken to men, desperation turns into disaster. Such is the story of Saul's first mistake.

BACK STORY: Philistine warriors were gathering at the border… preparing to invade, and the king thought his troops would run away. He was more afraid of what men COULD do... than standing in faith of what God WOULD do.

When King Saul had to wait on Samuel for prayers to be made before the fight, and “the wait” seemed like an eternity, Saul rushed ahead, overstepping God's will.*

Sadly, desperation ordered his steps. Not God!

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Taking desperation to God (not men) is an act of faith and self-discipline. When our first go-to is God, we avoid becoming unguided human missiles, harming ourselves, and most often, others.

Instead, you’re guided Christian missives, on a mission as Christ’s ambassadors!

‘Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts’ (2 Corinthians 3:3).

Without a doubt, Satan WILL attack you, but don't lose your faith like DESPERATE Saul. Instead, lose your fear… and wait on the Lord. The time of your win will CERTAINLY come!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

* Short article: Why did God reject Saul as king for making one small mistake?https://understandingbooksbible.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/0417/ (Saul made many more mistakes than one, but this is a good article.)
