The Taylor Swift Effect: Beauty

Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had brought up because she had neither father nor mother. This young woman, who was also known as Esther, had a lovely figure and was beautiful. Mordecai had taken her as his own daughter when her father and mother died.

Esther 2:7 (NIV)

You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.

Song of Solomon 4:7 (ESV)

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:14 (ESV)

Your adornment must not be merely the external…

1 Peter 3:3 (NASB)

God made Taylor lovely in the world’s eyes, as He does for others (selectively)– often for reasons we can’t understand.

SIDEBAR: Because of my family history– and the industry in which God placed me… I’ve studied appearance extensively, with the Word of God as my reference – regarding “handsome” or “beautiful” heroes.

2ND SIDEBAR: In God’s Eyes, each of us is beautiful: unique, priceless, and irreplaceable! When we start seeing ourselves as He does, we become unstoppably attractive (no matter what lying mirrors whisper).

He knows “good looks” draw worldly attention. Consequentially, people follow stars. Most of us believe beauty is a gift– and how “good-lookers” use that gift varies:

  • Some parade it and use it selfishly. (Think of flirts, show-offs, and social climbers.)

  • Others hide it and pretend it’s not there. (Sadly, some Christians hide in the “plain” group.)

  • Few know beauty’s responsibility. (Re-read the Parable of the Talents!)

How has lovely Taylor handled her gift? (Incredibly well, in my opinion.) She doesn’t hide it, and doesn’t flaunt it. Although she can buy ANYTHING she wants, her style is simple and relatable.*

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Regarding your mission in media, including your “attractive” appearance, pray on these two points:

  1. Do you know your best looks and what’s trending, realizing that in your field, it helps?

  2. Do you “get” this responsibility, and neither ignore it, nor abuse it?

Bottom Line:

Embrace the REASON God gave you your gifts, which is certainly to glorify Him. When fans admire your looks, point up to God!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
