King Saul: Pride
Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
Revelation 3:17-18 (NKJV)
The brutal war with the Amalekites was a turning point for the Lord’s first king. But King Saul turned in the wrong direction. It was AWAY from God– not toward Him!
Consider the mission’s circumstances:
God ordered this overwhelming campaign to avenge an unforgettable wrong. Filled with pride, Saul misunderstood his role as God’s captain, UNDER the General.
Saul partly obeyed, then flipped the mission to a conclusion he thought was better. When Saul was confronted by Samuel, the erring king made feeble excuses.
On the journey back home from Amalek, Saul built a monument of remembrance to his remarkable war victory. He glorified himself, instead of God.
When Samuel turned his back to the king, Saul grabbed at Samuel’s robe– and it tore, which symbolized the division between God and his disobedient servant.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
Saul was brought down by Satan’s prime sin: PRIDE! God’s first king made a “show” of religion, modeling the hypocrisy to come– where showy Christian “kings” divide their hearts: glorifying God, but ALSO THEMSELVES!
But God won’t be served with a partial heart. Proud Christians are actually “naked”, no matter how “luxe” they look to the world.**

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
