Poor People: Their King

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed…

Luke 4:18 (ESV)

In some ways, a valid case could be made: Jesus became the poorest Man on Earth.

'And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?' ' (Matthew 27:46).*

Because essentially, poor means LACKING: 'Having little or no money, goods or other means of support; faulty or inferior, as in construction; deficient in desirable ingredients...' **

  • Hanging on the Cross, Jesus became “faulty in construction.” He was torn apart in bearing our sins.

  • Hanging on the Cross, He lacked His most desired “ingredient”: ongoing communion with His Father.

  • Hanging on the Cross, Jesus lacked clothing, justice, and support. Years before, He gave up all that He owned.

Jesus, the Man, CHOSE to lack everything… that most of us spend our lives to acquire. By voluntary simplification…

  • By obedience to His Father's plan, by submission to evil governments,

  • By taking all our sins upon Himself, by submitting to a tortuous death,

  • Christ gave up it all to give us His all: redemption and eternity with God!

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

By lacking everything most of us want, Jesus, as a Man, gained more than He lost: the eternal lives of God's children (us), in securing our freedom from Satan. That was His mission and plan all along.

Consider two UNpopular lessons:

1) Neither ignore nor denounce poor people.

2) They may need your help, and you may need theirs.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
