Superlatives! Drama Queens
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words, you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned.
Matthew 12:36-37 (NASB)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 (NASB)
The lips of a fool shall swallow him up... A fool also multiplies words.
Ecclesiastes 10:12,14 (NKJV)
Drama queens (and kings) are emblematic in film, fashion, music, and theatre. They (you) possess an unusual gift. It’s a talent for communication.
Whether it's the resonance of your voice, the light in your eyes, or the way you move--you attract attention like a magnet. When this “pull” power is used properly, fame is a blessing!
What’s the right context? It’s when YOU point searching hearts toward God.
'Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father Who is in Heaven' (Matthew 5:16).
For instance, a drama queen might confess:
'God TOTALLY, COMPLETELY changed my life, from the WORST LOSER, to living my dream, feeling FANTASTIC.' These superlatives (extremes) highlight God.
But dramatic acts can turn on a dime--depending on the words we choose to speak! Since words can create and words can destroy, drama divas can drop bombs on themselves (or much worse, they can drop bombs on others):
'I NEVER get booked. Agents DON’T LIKE me.'
'Could this HORRIBLE day get any WORSE?'
This job’s AWFUL. I’m ABSOLUTELY broke.'
‘I ALWAYS mess up. I don’t EVER win.’
‘I HATE the way I look. I’m SO UGLY.’
Remember: When you gripe about your life to others, the Lord takes your complaints Personally. You rep Jesus poorly and harm yourself. (It's a tragic mistake outsiders make.)
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: God equips you to know and show better. Be mindful of the power in your words.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
