Priorities: A Humble Procession Or A Grand Show?

Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the Name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!'

Mark 11:7-10 (NKJV)

In what is called a 'Triumphal Entry,' Earth's leading Man was about to conclude…

“THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD” (Act 2)*

It's a love story, labeled REDEMPTION, preceded by RECONCILIATION. The Hero’s 33-year life seemed to end with an excruciating cliffhanger: His public execution on a Cross! But He would soon reveal a higher truth.

His Name is Jesus: the Ultimate Star.

Before His death-defying victory was scene after scene of signs and wonders. No one witnessing the Star’s performance… had seen anything like His show before. Some believed what they saw. Others did not. But every witness talked about the Man.

Because the King of kings came down to Earth in the role of Carpenter-turned-Prophet, Teacher, Healer, and demon-Extractor. But…

As He grew in wisdom, stature, and favor– with God and with man, He refused to grow in pretense, pageantry, or puffed-up pride.

Thus, His entry into Jerusalem wasn’t in an expensive chariot led by a team of glorious horses. Instead, it was a humble procession, with Jesus sitting on a small donkey—and His disciples walking behind Him. Why?

This King's priority was SACRIFICE. He didn’t come to BE served… but TO serve.

Now consider modern celebrities. Today's kings and stars sit in leather seats on private jets and luxe limousines.

Even so, God's story called Redemption still runs. Jesus left to His supporting cast (YOU)… critical roles on stages everywhere. You play your parts well, through scene after scene--in a long-running show that will not stop… until the Star returns for the finale.

Everyone will see Him, and His question to each of us will be:

  • What has been your foremost priority?

Priorities: A Humble Procession Or A Grand Show? (Part 7)

* Act 1 is summarized in the Old Testament of the Bible. Act 3 is in progress right now, starring Christians everywhere. This act is called “The Great Commission of Jesus Christ.” All duties are set up and spelled out in God’s Script, a.k.a. Scripture, by the Director in Acts 1 and 2. Earth’s Finale, is coming soon.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
