Little Leaguers: A Perfect Game
When the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, 'Hosanna to the Son of David!' they were indignant and said to Him, 'Do You hear what these are saying?'
And Jesus said to them, 'Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?'
Matthew 21:15-16 (NKJV)
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His Name.
John 1:12 (NKJV)
I loved a movie called 'The Perfect Game.' So here's the IMDB storyline:
'Based on a true story. In 1957 a rag-tag, shoeless, poor group of kids from Monterrey, Mexico, shocked the world by winning 13 games in a row and the Little League World Series--in the only perfect game ever pitched in the Championship.’
'These kids, led by their priest and a down-and-out former major leaguer, embark on a journey through the southern US and up into Williamsport, PA, for the Championship game. They encountered many adversities, including nearly being deported and bigotry that wouldn't allow them into certain restaurants or travel on certain buses. They never lost their faith and eventually captured the hearts of both nations.'
When this unlikely team kept on winning, the press rightfully labeled their contest a David versus Goliath story. The children were heralded as heroes and got to meet the U.S. President!
'Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings' (Proverbs 22:29). 'Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising' (Isaiah 60:3).
In spite of their younger age, smaller size, and relative lack of experience (or because of it), these little leaguers became major stars. Shepherded by their local, hometown priest, these actors, models, and talent for Christ showed the world a whole lot more than baseball.
They showed countless fans the true Heart of God, 'For My power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9).

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
