Isaiah 61:The Great Commission

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives.

Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV)*

You shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him.

Exodus 29:7 (NKJV)

When mighty Moses anointed Aaron, the big brother got a great commission: Aaron became the priest of God's people.

When Almighty God anointed Jesus, the Chosen One got a great commission: Jesus became the King of God's people.

'You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him' (Acts 10:38).

' 'Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.' And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit' ' (John 20:21-22).

When The King anointed His disciples, they received a great commission: Students became 'Ambassadors for Christ' (2 Corinthians 5:20) to all of Earth's people.

Well before ‘actors’ meant entertainers, they were actors, models, and talent for Christ.

Now that entertainment has claimed that name, YOU’re actors, models, and talent for Christ.

As 'Citizens of Heaven' (Philippians 3:20), YOU represent the Government of God on the airwaves of modern media. God sends you, as He sent your Savior first: 'To preach good tidings to the poor,' 'To heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.'

Why the poor? Because… 'The common people heard Jesus gladly' (Mark 12:37).

What about the rich? 'Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed' (Acts 28:27).

You’re the 'Eye salve' (Revelation 3:18) of a fresh, new vision.

'Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age' (Matthew 28:19-20).

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
