Everyday Stars: Homemakers
David, therefore, departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. So when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.
1 Samuel 22:1-2 (NKJV)
I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV)
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)
Everyday stars are busy homemakers. A homemaker is 'one who manages a household' (American Heritage Dictionary), but I prefer this literal meaning: one who makes a home, specifically… a place of love, safety and renewal.
What kind of home? A warm, welcoming home. What kind of maker? The heavenly kind: a person of God.
How can we become godly homemakers? Jesus spells it our quite simply in John: 'Abide in Me' (John 15:4); 'Abide in My love' (John 15:9).
If we abide in our Savior’s Spirit, we carry our home wherever we go!
Others will be attracted to our homes, like the lost to light, the starving to food, the weary to sleep, and war-torn refugees to God’s embrace.
Consider David.
As a little boy, he lived with his family in a house.
As a teen shepherd, he lived with his father’s sheep in pastures.
As a musician, he lived with a mad king in a palace.
As a warrior, he lived with soldiers in dangerous fields.
As a fugitive, he lived in caves and far-away places..
But the love of God was in David's heart, and that cave began to look like the Ritz! David's followers were attracted to the home he offered. His team-building skills for future kingship took root and grew in that forsaken cave.
Now Jesus prepares our ultimate Home: 'In My Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you' (John 14:2). Until that grand day, we make the best of every circumstance!
'Be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you' ' (Hebrews 13:5).
God has a plan in every place we live, and every place we live… CAN be a home.
So, to all God's homemakers, near and far, KUDOS to you!... Earth’s often unsung stars!
Because the Star of stars is a Homemaker, you're in the Most Noble of Company. Always remember, 'The tent of the upright WILL flourish' (Proverbs 14:11).
Therefore, BEING A HOMEMAKER… is an attribute of everyday stars.

Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
