The Straight Up Word: A Woman's Role

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Proverbs 31:30 (NKJV)*

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything... Let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Ephesians 5:22-24,33 (NKJV)

My father used to say of my mother, “Millie agrees with the last reasonable thing she heard.”

NOTE: My mom was a bold and brilliant person– a pioneer for the rights of women, and an advocate for social justice (My dad’s words don’t void her accomplishments-– but reveal her as impressionable.)

I hereby confess the same tendency--which led me to research and reflection.

  • At the ‘fully ripe’ age of 51,

  • After 3 decades of business success,

  • After 3 decades of marriage failure,

  • I found Jesus and STILL study The Word!

I present my non-P.C. opinion: women are more easily led than men. Not all of us. Not always. But often. Why?

We're led by the heart. It's a part crucial part of our DNA.

  • A baby's cry prompts us to stop and turn.

  • A friend's cry prompts us to offer comfort.

  • A husband's cry prompts his wife to step up…

  • With more strength than humanly possible.

Women are tireless helpers and heroes: servant-leaders who rise to move mountains.

God calls this job description… EXALTED– so much that His Son adopted the role.

Women of God:

  • Are we diminished by our deference?

  • Is respecting our husbands obsolete?

Only if God is lying when He says (again and again):

‘Those who humble themselves will be exalted’ (Luke 14:11).

As every person on Earth will soon learn: The Lord doesn’t lie, and Jesus Christ is Truth Personified.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
