Losers: You’re Doing WHAT?

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”

1 Samuel 17:26-28 (NIV)

Yesterday, we talked about eccentrics: Bible heroes with unusual paths.

Today, we dive into expectations: When your path seems preset, but you change it, to follow a more exceptional one. Consider these stars:

  • Noah, a simple family farmer, became a boat-builder with no water… in a “this-doesn’t-make-sense” kind-of-way.

  • David, a shepherd, a baby brother, became Israel’s most marvelous king... in a “jump-ahead-in-line” kind-of-way.

  • Nehemiah, a royal cupbearer, became Jerusalem’s wall rebuilder… in a “this-will-never-work” kind-of-way.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

When someone asks, you’re doing WHAT??... just smile. Disarm them with your no-matter-what pluck. Some of them may scoff and call you “crazy”.

Some, who love you, may be afraid for you… afraid you can’t support yourself– and fail. (Almost all of God’s stars heard the same thing.) A faith walk is easier said than done!

Others will be inspired by your daring: inspired enough to seek their own calling, inspired enough to follow your Leader… because your courage encourages them!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
