Christian Pitfalls: Sedition

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

Romans 13:1-2 (NIV)

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 (ESV)

When Jesus (as Man) submitted Himself to the rule of Jews and the laws of Rome, He said to Pilate:

'You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above' (John 19:11).

Jesus is clear: God's will IS being done through earthly governments (even bad ones).

'Do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?' (Matthew 26:53-54).

Remember when Jesus was arrested, and Peter wanted to fight. Christ’s response?

'Put your sword into its sheath. Shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given Me?' (John 18:11). 'Permit even this' (Luke 22:51).

Some Christians choose to forget their King’s Words. Outspoken political involvement is trending in many congregations… that PROTEST leaders and laws they judge WRONG.

  • But where is their biblical precedent?

  • Moses didn't denounce pagan Egypt.

  • Daniel worked peacefully in Babylon.

  • Esther learned and respected Persian law.

On the other Hand, God’s Righteous Right Hand…

Jesus ushered in a new government with revolutionary principles. It was based on personal submission. Specifically, in blind faith, we submit to God and man--trusting our Father to right every wrong (just like Jesus did)!

Spiritually, war is upon us. To Satan’s rule and reign, we DON’T submit. Our Captain taught us how to fight sin’s boss. He gave us armor, weapons, and power– also strategy and battle tactics.

But toward Earth’s lawmakers, good or bad… public protest can be called SEDITION: 'any action, especially in speech or writing, promoting discontent or rebellion' (Random House Dictionary).

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

In your mission, you have three sets of rules:

  1. The Word of God, a.k.a. Jesus Christ (as depicted in the New Testament).

  2. The governmental laws of your nation (which vary from place to place, so learn them).

  3. The ways and customs of media kings… in the diverse fields of entertainment.

Concerning the third, don't scorn or condemn. Contempt WON’T further the cause of your King… and may provoke your eviction notice!

Worldly leaders don't know what they don't know, because they don't know the “Who” they should know. Only the Spirit of truth can change a man.

So what CAN you do? Do what JESUS did. Love them without judgment or exclusion… into the spiritual government that you represent!

You’re Christ’s goodwill, good news ambassadors!

One more thing: Media's customs aren’t laws. Regarding questionable assignments, pray! If God’s Spirit in you whispers 'No', you can (and should) agree with Him--not them. But do so kindly, and respectfully.

Christian Pitfalls: Sedition (Part 36)

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
