Poor People: Become Great

Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness will cover the earth,
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you,
And His glory will appear upon you.
Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Isaiah 60:1-3 (NASB)

Some men are all about gaining greatness, with power and position as their perks, with wealth and possessions as their prizes. But….

  • Just when they parade their golden tickets,

  • Just when they puff up and strut like peacocks,

  • Just when they start believing their own hype,

  • Just when they look down on “lesser” people,

  • They've risen to a place to take a fall,

  • Because great men without God become small.

God's all about achieving greatness, too, with Jesus as His chosen Example.
But…

  • Just when God’s Son lost the popular vote,

  • Just when He was publicly mocked and whipped,

  • Just when He reduced Himself to a Lamb,

  • Just when He'd gone to His Cross without help,

  • He put Himself in THE prime place to rise.

  • Because the meek will inherit the earth.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

The Lord sets up unlikely promotions.

  • Who would think shepherds, farmers, fishermen, tradesmen, and tax collectors would be stars?

  • Who would choose a simple couple from a nowhere village to raise the King of kings?

Our Father, the Creator of drama, the Writer of endings rich men deny, readily reveals His Rules of greatness.

If 'Humility comes before honor' (Proverbs 18:12), then poor people now hold the advantage! 'For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted' (Luke 14:11).

How better to display our Lord's glory?

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
