Christian Pitfalls: Haughty Eyes
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (ESV)
The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.
Psalm 101:5 (NKJV)
Certain Christians LOVE to HATE certain sins, as if they’re qualified to speak for God, as if they know HIS least favorite things…
Truly, no one on Earth can know His thoughts. That being said…
One diligent and referenced website lists 667 sins.* How troubling, humbling, and overwhelming!
Thank God for mercy! Thank God for Jesus!
But if a “Least Favorite List” exists, the Book of Proverbs gives us seven hints: seven sins God calls ABOMINABLE. Haughty eyes lead these abominations.
Have YOU ever looked down on someone else?
Someone with values different than you?
Someone who doesn’t speak or look like you?
Someone without “higher” education?
Someone with a “lesser” low-paying job?
A maid or server? (Jesus came to serve.)
A tradesman? (Jesus was a carpenter.)
A homeless person? (Jesus was homeless.)
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
You’re too kind and wise to have haughty eyes– but don’t hang with so-called Christians who do. You know who they are. You’ve seen their proud looks. You’ve heard their mean words. Their noses go up. Their insults put down. They do NOT represent the God of love!
King David, a man after God’s Own Heart, saw himself this way:
‘My heart is not proud, O Lord, my eyes are not haughty. I do not aspire to great matters or things too lofty for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul. Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me’ (Psalm 131:1-2).
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
Let’s copy David. Let’s copy JESUS! Let’s NOT look down with condescending eyes, pretending we’re holier than others…
Because that pretense is harmful fiction.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
