Impossible Healings: Modern Medicine
We have the Mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV)
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.
1 Corinthians 12:27 (NKJV)
It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 (NKJV)
Mental illness is a monstrous problem. Do monsters, a.k.a. demons, cause it?
The Great Physician showed us they CAN.
Mental illness plagued my own family.
What about our physical illnesses?
Most people depend on medical care.
Others (who lack funds or insurance) don’t.
Countless more live in desolate places.
What about the prescription drugs we take?
Undeniably, drugs bring side effects, sometimes requiring additional drugs.
Frustration comes when we try to divide cause from effect, action from reaction.
Does God intend this painful confusion?
Surely, He doesn’t. ‘God is not the author of confusion’ (1 Corinthians 14:33).
But health “mysteries” can hit anyone--including His Spirit-filled believers.
Should we depend on the pill or the pew?
Should we check into the ward or the Word?
Should we wait on God to deliver us?
Should we ask church elders to pray for us?
Should we seek medical intervention?
Regarding the pain of mental illness, the church is divided, and judgment abounds.*
When Christians see with complete clarity, we'll be in Heaven. In this mean-time called “today”, I won’t judge.
I believe God heals through good physicians.
I believe God heals spontaneously.
I believe God heals through intercession.
As it was in Christ’s day, so it is now: God's treatment plan is a personal plan.
Do modern doctors have the right answers? Possibly yes… if Jesus works through them.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
