Field Of Dreams: The Source Of Your Dreams

Joseph had a dream... He said to them, 'Please listen to this dream which I have had; for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf rose up and also stood erect; and behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf.' Then his brothers said to him, 'Are you actually going to reign over us?'

Genesis 37:5-8 (NASB)

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: 'Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, nor listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely to you in My Name; I have not sent them,' says the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:8-9 (NKJV)

Two sources of power exist on Earth:

  1. God: 'You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you' (Acts 1:8).

  2. Satan: 'I will give you all the power and glory of these kingdoms. All of it has been given to me, and I give it to anyone I please' (Luke 4:6).*

If you’re tempted to think you’ve got power… (Surely, many of Earth’s politicians, celebrities, and billionaires think so– by their work, position, or achievement) RECONSIDER!

As a miraculous Man, Jesus said: 'I can of Myself do nothing' (John 5:30).

In parallel thought, I believe two sources of dreams exist:

  1. God-inspired dreams: ‘I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams’ (Acts 2:17).

  2. Satan-inspired dreams: 'Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make My people forget My Name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor' (Jeremiah 23:26-27).

  • 'As long as there was a market for dreams, so long there would be plenty of impostors to supply them' (Barnes' Notes on the Bible).

Can Christians have false dreams? Certainly, yes.

'For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear' (2 Timothy 4:3).

What teachers? Sadly, some ARE false prophets, but also MEDIA: ADS, SHOWS, and STARS.

Countless people dream of being famous!

How can Christians know their dreams come from God?

  1. Follow Him closely. Stay in fellowship with Christ by His Word, Spirit, and people. God will confirm dreams and light up their path.

  2. 'Test all things; hold fast what is good' (1 Thessalonians 5:21); 'Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world' (1 John 4:1).

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: Do NOT believe the world, nor worldly people--to confirm a dream. Only believe God!

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
