Busyness: Your God-Given Task
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)
Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15 (NKJV)
You are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:48 (NKJV)
As the Father has sent me, I also send you.
John 20:21 (NKJV)
If you obey Jesus as your Captain, His Commission is your God-given task: one job, with millions of ways to do it. Nevertheless, every activity will neglect, hinder, or FURTHER this task.
Like going to stores. Do you push through the aisles in a hurry, focusing on your personal concerns? Or do you acknowledge the people you pass?
Like going to school. Do you hang with your friends, which is easy? Or do you reach out to the newcomer, the outcast, and possibly save a life?
Like going to work. Is it all about your own advancement? Do you gripe, slack off or fight for the top? Or do you show excellence and kindness?
Actors, models, and talent for Chris: As God’s performers with talent and heart, you have a wondrous opportunity to reach the lost. Do you enter this strange field to find them? Or do you stay put in more normal jobs… and avoid the risk?
But is it a risk?
'Now thanks be to God Who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place' (2 Corinthians 2:14).
What is triumph but brilliant victory?
What is victory but brilliant success?
Jesus, Himself, guarantees your success!
The MUCH GREATER RISK is staying home. Recall the end of the ‘lazy servant,’ who buried the talent his lord gave to him.*
However, those servants who got busy in the world and multiplied their talents… heard the words every Christian longs to hear:
'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord' (Matthew 25:21, 23).
That lord is our Lord!
Therefore, stay strong in your faith and purpose. Is your duty an unusual one? Yes! All leaders must walk the road less traveled. BUT…
'Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go' (Joshua 1:9).
Without courage, faith is just a church word.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
