Is Celebrity Toxic? Promiscuity

With her enticing speech, she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips, she seduced him.
Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
Till an arrow struck his liver.
As a bird hastens to the snare,
He did not know it would cost his life.

Proverbs 7:21-23 (NKJV)

I don’t like these two words: sex and sexy. (At least not in the context they’re now used.) Back in the day, ‘sex’ referred to gender, and it still does, in terms of botany.

But most people see sex as a “hookup”… as in “casual sex,” most often between unmarried people. In the Bible, it’s called fornication.

Clearly, the Lord warns against sexual immorality, so I think Satan connived a word switch… to help saints overlook this no-win sin.

Instead of committing fornication, we’re just ‘connecting’ in a common way. Instead of being 'fornicators' and/or 'adulterers,' we’re ‘no-harm-no-foul 'consenting adults.' (Maybe we won't receive God's punishments for our promiscuous relationships.) Hmm.

In considering the consequences, like depression, abortion, and STDs, like human trafficking and suicide, like lost innocence and pornography, like broken marriages and families…

What entertainment calls ‘normal and fun’… I call misery waiting to happen.

So what’s promiscuity’s antidote?

In one unusual word: PURITY. In one bold go-against-the-flow act: FLEE. 'Flee immorality' (1 Corinthians 6:18). 'Flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness' (2 Timothy 2:22).

But what if in innocence or ignorance, you’ve done some things that you wish you hadn’t?

NOTE: So has everyone else who’s ever lived. Except Jesus. In Him, you’re pure again.

'If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new' (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Is Celebrity Toxic? Promiscuity (Part 5)

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

* STDs are sexually transmitted diseases, including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and AIDS. Some of these diseases are curable. Others are not.
