Deny Shy: She's Just Shy
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
God doesn’t want us to be shy with His gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.
2 Timothy 1:7 (The Message)
I was a shy kid, while the rest of my family was NOT:
My mom drew attention like a magnet: a lovely and celebrated model!
My dad was a seasoned public speaker: a charming and heroic war hero!
My older brothers were both popular: cool guys, on the go, happy with their friends.
But me? I was so shy… I had difficulty making eye contact.
My mother’s solution to my shyness was to enroll me in acting classes, and it DID work--at least on the outside. I became a pro at hiding my fear. BUT secretly, I still felt unworthy… of friendship or lasting relationships.
Shyness is a thick wall that divides us… from dreams, delight, and our best destinies.
In future decades (as a talent scout), I met shy and reluctant performers, who were clearly afraid and holding back. Did I call them back? If they had talent… most often I did. But Casting Directors do NOT extend the same courtesy.
Why?
They can’t take the risk or become the cause of a big role being underperformed.
The Result?
Performers bury their talent and dreams…
Because they believe they’re not good enough.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: I’ve come to believe “Shy” is a demon. When we’re little kids, it almost seems cute. But… DEMONS AREN’T CUTE! They’re agents of hell.
Therefore, discard old blankets of shyness.
From this moment on– uncover your light… Or better said, the Lord’s Light within you.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2014 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
